Invenio Business Solutions Delivers Implementation of SAP ERP, IS-Media and Broadcast Solution for Standard Media Group

IQ Winnersh, READING, UK –04 August 2015The Standard Media Group (TSMG), one of the largest publishing houses in Kenya selected SAP Gold Partner, Invenio Business Solutions, to implement a comprehensive SAP ERP & IS-Media solution across its organisation. The initial roll-out was completed in just six months, enabling TSMG to utilise SAP and transition its business from a manually operated system, to a fully automated business.

TSMG has dramatically increased the efficiency and accuracy of its processes. Invenio played a crucial role as lead implementation partner in the project and continues to provide ongoing technical support since the completion of the implementation.

TSMG is a modern media organisation with a diverse business portfolio, comprising traditional and new media outlets and services including, the printing and distribution of newspapers including The Standard Newspaper, the oldest newspaper in East Africa, as well as broadcasting of television and radio, and internet and outdoor services.

TSMG’s management was unable to attain a clear view on how the organisation was performing and had poor access to data with the previous manual system which was in place. Information continued to be late and lacked accurate detail leading to a poor critical decision making process and reduced profitability. For example, the business had no visibility or data about the number of sales and returns of print publications across sales outlets. It was also challenging to control revenue leakages and fraudulent activity from internal and external customers.

By automating its business processes with SAP, TSMG has been able to control these major revenue leakages, and has streamlined the sales and returns process. It also has better visibility of the number of transactions completed, increased inter-departmental efficiency through transparency and integration and introduced real time analysis to adapt its market strategy for different regions, maximising profits.

TSMG relied on Invenio’s technical expertise as an SAP Gold Partner, to ensure that the business transformation was as smooth as possible. To make this automation successful, it chose to work with a specialised SAP implementation provider with vast experience in Media. Invenio’s knowledge of the media market and its customers also provided TSMG with the right consultancy and advice to take full advantage of their business change.

Invenio Solutions’ Partho Bhattacharya talks procurement, business growth, and the cloud

Tell us about your company, how long have you been in IT and what are your areas of expertise?

Invenio Business Solutions is a specialised business solutions consultancy working across a number of industries. We provide our customers with transformational and run-support work using SAP technologies and other integration tools. Our tax and revenue management systems for central government help maximise tax collection and reduce evasion and fraud management for public sector clients. We help customers in manufacturing reduce operating costs and we work in all areas of media like music and television, helping clients maximise their revenues and reduce costs. Invenio is a global business with 11 offices worldwide and we feel that transparency, building strong customer relationships and offering good value for money is essential.

I have personally been in IT for the last 30 years, working for the likes of IBM, Siemens and Tata.

What motivates you right now?

Partho_InvenioWinning customers and delivering value to them to help them grow is an exciting business to be involved in and it continues to motivate us every day. Because of this drive, we have won a number of awards for growth, quality and business success and have been included in the Sunday Times Tech Track for the last three years running. We want to continue to be recognised for delivering great customer service across our extensive client portfolio.

What has been your favourite project so far?

We’ve been involved in a lot of exciting projects, so choosing one is difficult. Something I’m really proud of is an SAP based procurement portal we developed from scratch. This portal is for the media industry and we deployed it to 130,000 global suppliers. Deploying it in an integrated manner with SAP finance systems with full internal controls was a great achievement. This has delivered great value to customers every day, increasing efficiency and saving them a great deal of money.

What tech were you involved with ten years ago?

I’ve been working with business systems for well over ten years and have seen many major developments. The expansion of software capabilities, social media integration and customer facing portals has pushed the industry miles ahead of where it was a decade ago.

What tech do you expect to be using in ten years’ time?

I believe IT will become a lot more social and the difference between personal and professional use of devices will evaporate. No one will carry two mobile phones and laptops will disappear, with more people using tablets and mobile devices. We should be able to work from anywhere and the concept of offices will change for good.

Who’s your tech hero?

Bill Gates, especially because of the way he uses his personal wealth for philanthropy.

Who’s your tech villain?

It’s difficult to name one. But the overall level of piracy that has increased with developments in technology is continuing to damage the content based media industry.

What’s your favourite technology ever made? Which do you use most?

My Macbook Air. I absolutely love it.

What’s the greatest challenge for an IT company/department today?

The biggest challenge for IT departments is to understand what their roles and responsibilities are within the wider business. IT will only survive if it is able to support the business as a whole.

Apart from your own, which company do you admire the most and why?

There are a lot of great IT companies around, from start-ups to multinationals. I really admire Google, they have completely transformed our lives in the last 10 years. Now everyone knows everything!

To Cloud or not to Cloud?

Cloud. The human cost of not using cloud will slowly kill on-premise IT infrastructure. Only the biggest companies will have the choice of not using cloud in a few years.

What did you want to be when you were a child?

I wanted to be a doctor, but I was not a good enough student for that!

Invenio Business Solutions Appoints Former SAP Executive Vijay Reddy as Their Global Client Director

IQ Winnersh, READING, UK – 05 June 2015. Invenio Business Solutions are pleased to announce the appointment of their new Global Client Director, Vijay Reddy. Vijay’s appointment will help establish the newly created Customer Management Zone within Invenio. Vijay will be responsible for managing and improving Invenio’s customer relationships across all lines of business and technology deliveries, he will also be responsible for overseeing Invenio’s strategic accounts.

Vijay brings with him over 25 years’ rich experience within global SAP consulting, 15 of those at SAP itself where he was head of global delivery, managing a team of around 2000 people across India, China and South America. He has also previously held positions with DEC, IBM and HCLTech where he managed a global team of 4,000+ consultants . Vijay has great experience in setting up and managing global consulting units to deliver IT services to customers across the world especially on SAP platform.

45 Mile Bike Ride for Charity? Yes Please!

 Matthew Hembrow Raises Awareness for the Princes Trust

Over the past 4 years Matthew Hembrow – Global Head for Media at Invenio and along with SAP, have rode in the UK’s Palace to Palace, Princes Trust Charity bike ride and this year was no exception.

Matthew rode along the 45 mile stretch from Buckingham Palace to Windsor Castle taking him just under 3 hours. Matthew was one of 4,000 cyclists who contributed to the already raised 1.1 million for the charity.

Matthew comments “I chose the princes trust because I saw two very different presentations from two young people who had explained how the money and support had changed their lives from near destitution and abusive lives to working with pride and even starting a business. Two genuinely moving presentations”.

The Prince’s Trust is a fantastic charity based in the UK and supports 13 to 30 year-olds who are unemployed and those struggling at school and at risk of exclusion. The Prince’s Trust will help 58,000 young people into training, education or employment this year. However, there are currently nearly one million unemployed young people in the UK. Many of the young people helped by The Trust are in or leaving care, facing issues such as homelessness or mental health problems, or they have been in trouble with the law.

Well done to all those who took part and raised money for such a good cause.

 

Invenio Formally Signs Framework Agreement with UK Government for SAP Enterprise Application Support Services

Invenio Signs Agreement with Department of Zakat & Income Tax, Saudi Arabia for Implementation & Support of SAP Tax and Revenue Management System

RIYADH, SAUDI ARABIA – 18 August 2014. Invenio today announced signing of an important agreement with the Department of ZAKAT and Income Tax (DZIT) in Riyadh to develop and modernise their automation systems for Zakat and Tax Automation System (ZTAS). This agreement was signed on behalf of the Department of Zakat and Income Tax by Deputy Director General for Supporting Operations, Saleh Al-Awaji and Invenio’s Managing Director, Partho Bhattacharya. Saleh Al-Awaji explained (translated): “The importance of this agreement, is to bring state-of-the-art technology by implementing SAP Tax and Revenue Management (TRM) system.

This development and modernisation project, awarded to Invenio Business Solutions seeks to keep DZIT up-to-date with the latest and best applications used in the field. Noting that the agreement is of great importance and will provide DZIT a quantum leap in eGovernment services. This will facilitate the whole of the taxpayer’s process with DZIT through an electronic portal while ensuring a smooth integration with various governmental entities for exchanging relevant taxation data. In addition to the multiple benefits, the new system will process revenue verification functions and will raise the commitment of taxpayers and reduce the risk of delays in the payment of Zakat and tax incl. the avoidance and fraud in general.”

Invenio Joins the Government’s G Cloud Programme for Specialist Cloud Services

Now in its 4th iteration, the GCloud programme will enable Invenio to offer a range of services in the “Specialist Cloud Services” category.

Phase One SAP Tax and Revenue Management Project Goes Live in Maldives

Maldives Inland Revenue Authority accomplishes landmark IT modernisation project for improved tax and revenue collection
Invenio breaks new ground in the successful deployment of SAP Tax and Revenue Management and SAP Taxpayer Online Services for the Republic of Maldives in under 6 months.

miraInvenio today announced that it has successfully concluded the first phase of a landmark tax and revenue management modernisation project for the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA). Phase One of the project, completed with technical assistance from the Asian Development Bank, sees the country move to a new SAP Tax and Revenue Management (SAP TRM) platform that enables the Maldivian tax authority to manage multiple tax types in one, integrated system. In addition, Maldivian taxpayers can now access the SAP Taxpayer Online Services (TPOS) portal to register and submit tax returns for the Business Profit and Goods & Services tax types.

The Republic of Maldives is a nation of 1,192 islands – making it one of the most geographically dispersed countries in the world. It is probably best known, however, as being one of the world’s foremost destinations for luxury travel – with many award-winning hotels and resorts located in the country. To help support sustained economic growth, the Government wanted to deliver a simplified, one-stop solution which would help their taxpaying community to manage their tax affairs more easily.

Mr Mohamed Faisal, Director, ICT said: “Prior to using SAP TRM, our tax collections were managed using various legacy systems – one for each different tax type. Managing multiple systems made it difficult for us to consolidate information and get one view of tax income. The aim of this project is to have one system across all tax types to aid the efficiency of our tax administration, and make it easier for our citizens and business owners to manage their tax affairs.”

To help deliver the project, a team of SAP TRM specialists from leading SAP Gold Channel Partner Invenio Business Solutions, were appointed to support MIRA in implementing the new solution. Martin Sobotka, Head of Public Sector Services for Invenio said: “Invenio offer significant expertise in delivering high-performance SAP TRM and TPOS solutions – which is a rare skill, in a very niche area. Having looked at the objectives of the implementation we were very confident that we could successfully add value to the project and deliver a solution in line with MIRA’s expectations”.

Phase One of the project focused on delivering the core of the Maldivian tax solution which, despite challenging timeframes, was successfully completed by the Invenio team in just under 6 months. As a result, MIRA can now process tax declarations and tax registrations for the most important tax types. Mr Ahmed Shareef, Director General, Return & Payment Processing said: “We are very happy with the support and expertise that the Invenio team has delivered in helping us to embark on this landmark project – and we are pleased that they have delivered on their commitment of delivering Phase One in such a short timeframe. Invenio has done a very good job in implementing this first phase, and we found they were very responsive in helping to deliver a solid platform from which we can now manage the Business Profit Tax and Goods & Services Tax”.

To aid the initiative, and make it easier for taxpayers to transition to the new tax administration process, MIRA has been proactive in implementing a scheme that helps train users in how to use the new system. This initiative has so far garnered a very positive response from their users in terms of the user-friendliness and functionality of the system.

male5Phase Two of the project, financed by the Asian Development Bank, is due to commence in July 2013 and is expected to be finalised by the end of 2013. This second phase will see the system extended to facilitate new form-based and object-based taxes and will also deliver additional SAP Taxpayer Online Services functions that will help taxpayers to manage more and more of their tax affairs online. Martin Sobotka, Head of Public Sector Services at Invenio said: “The project has delivered a very stable foundation for the entire management of the tax and revenue management lifecycle across all upcoming tax types. We very much look forward to working with the team at MIRA in scoping and delivering even more value from the system in the next few months, including enhanced reporting features using state-of-the-art SAP technology”.

Mr Yazeed Mohamed, Commissioner General of Taxation, has overall responsibility for Tax Administration in the Republic of Maldives. Mr Mohamed was able to offer valuable advice to other government administrations who may be considering a project of this scale. He says “Change management and communication management are critical aspects in a project implementation of this magnitude, and I would advise my counterparts in other tax administrations to ensure that these elements of the project are managed very carefully throughout the lifecycle of the project to help assure a successful outcome”. Mr Mohamed concluded: “We believe that Invenio is a capable business partner that offers the right expertise and commitment to ensure this project continues to a successful outcome. We are looking forward to embarking upon Phase Two with Invenio and believe that the Maldivian tax administration will become a standard bearer for best practice in supporting the development of a national economy”.

Invenio Continues Growth with New Offices in USA and India

READING UK, – 29 April 2013.
